In a nutshell, the FDA recommends expanding the sunscreen labeling to include broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB. While the timing is perfect for XANGO and our Glimpse® Mineral Treatment SPF/PA+++ announcement, you may be a bit confused by all the technical terms flying around. Well, don’t worry, we’re here to clear that up for you. See below a quick and simplified run down of the technical terms you need to know about in the realm of sunscreens: UVA, UVB, SPF and PA.

• UVA: UVA is a type of ultraviolet light with higher wavelength (400-320 nanometer). UVA penetrates the skin deeply and is known to cause premature aging and wrinkling (photoaging).
• UVB:  UVB is a type ultraviolet light with lower wavelength (320-290 nm). UVB tends to damage the skin’s surface layers, causing reddening and sunburn. For example, if it takes 30 minutes without protection for your skin to turn red, using SPF 15 sunscreen prevents you from reddening 15 times longer.
• SPF: Protection in sunscreen is indicated on labels as SPF (sun protection factor). SPF is an indication of how long skin would take before your skin turns red – a measure for UVB damage. Skin Cancer Foundation recommends a sunscreen with SPF of 15 or higher for adequate protection.
• PA: PA (Protection Grade UVA) is the Japanese measurement of sun protection. This measurement is based on the Persistent Pigment Darkening (PPD) reaction reading to 2-4 hours of sun exposure. Most EU countries use PPD and most Asian countries use PA. UVA causes premature aging.

Now that the technical jargon is clear and understandable, let’s celebrate XANGO’s Glimpse Mineral Treatment’s UVA and UVB new labeling. While the global formula has remained the same since we launched in 2009, the sun protection testing is something we just finished up earlier this Spring. This Mineral Treatment testing was conducted by a 3rd party laboratory receiving the rating of SPF 25 and PA +++, which is higher compared to most mineral powders available. Most mineral powders offer lower sun protection at 15 SPF with no UVA labeling.

As many of you may know, the Glimpse™ Mineral Treatment has been undergoing UV protection testing. I am pleased to announce that the testing has recently been completed and the results are in, Glimpse Mineral Treatment offers ratings of SPF 25 and PA+++.

Confused?

The UV protection rating system can be a bit confusing but here is what you need to know: The SPF number indicates your protection from UVB rays and PA+++* is the measurement for protection against UVA rays. UVA/UVB rays damage your skin in different ways and it is essential to protect your skin against overexposure to the sun. For more information on UV, check out the glimpseblog.com.

When formulating the Mineral Treatment I wanted to create a product that provided protection while working with your skin to support its inherent defensive mechanisms against the environment. I am very pleased with the results of the testing. We are achieving effective protection through the use of zinc oxide and botanicals rather than using chemical sunscreens such as octinoxate and avobenzone. Why is this significant? Recent studies are raising the question as to whether these chemical sunscreens do more harm than good.**

Long lines of Distributors started forming outside Hotel New Otani 2 ½ hours before the general session of Japan’s 2011 Kickoff Event opened its doors. The Kickoff is their biggest local event of the year, with more than 400 Distributors and prospects packed in for a terrific day of training.

The venue was truly impressive. The entrance and all the walls were covered in XANGO—great to see the recognition for new rank achievers and displays for XANGO Goodness and other products. You could really feel the vigor (the theme of the event) as people picked up “lucky dip” swag bags, too. Great planning.

Eiichi Shiokawa, XANGO Japan GM, did a great job opening up the festivities with a clear outline of how to carry out the vision you have for your future. After that, our President & CEO Robert Conlee threw down the gauntlet: “XANGO can and must achieve a billion dollars in annual sales faster than anybody else in the history of the industry.” The Japanese Distributors looked ready to take up the challenge, and I have no doubt they can do it based on last year’s growth.

My brother Joe held the room with stirring remarks about the power of believing in yourself and CMO Larry Macfarlane followed introducing Japan to Eleviv™. We’re so excited this product is now available there. Masato Yoneda discussed the upcoming year and Alex Treharne, Senior VP, Asia Pacific, came next. He has a unique perspective with a view of U.S. headquarters and the Japanese market, and from that privileged vantage point he sees nothing but a bright future, as long as Distributors keep working for it.

I was able to speak next and share how special the Japanese market is to me. It was pioneered by 100K Harue Hasegawa, working with my father and mother. And while I’m a little jealous of Japan’s XANGO gummy candies, I’m continually impressed with how the market integrates the global brand image into its unique culture. If Japan keeps up the tempo they’re at now, their Kickoff Event is going to be held at Budokan before long.

Big thanks to my gracious hosts in Japan. You guys are on fire!

I arrived in Toronto on Friday evening and visited the beautiful home of Melody Johnson. A group of us gathered for an elegant party to celebrate Melody’s entrance into XANGO’s Million Dollar Club. Melody has been instrumental in rallying all Distributors in the Toronto area. She is constantly sharing the XANGO opportunity with others, and it is apparent from the many who attended her party. The evening provided a great opportunity to recognize Melody for her incredible leadership. Congratulations Melody!

Saturday was just as spectacular! Melody and Team Ontario organized a power-packed Super Saturday. Attendance included Premier Select Maggie Gale who flew in from Vancouver along with 20K Lindsay Johnson and 20K Martha Cooper to join the local leadership for this event. I was privileged to present Melody with her Million Dollar Club pin during the meeting and to recognize her accomplishments along with her XANGO family. Her leadership shined in a moving speech and call to action. It was a XANGO moment to be remembered!

Dr. David Morton and I were grateful for the opportunity to present on behalf of XANGO and Team Ontario. We will be watching with excitement as this area of the XANGO Nation has gained serious momentum.

Misha Hughes, Jessica Barratt and I were greeted at the airport by 20K Doug Cooper. We were driven to the Cooper’s lovely home where we joined 20K Martha and her team of committed women. Martha served a lovely luncheon—it was a time of great fellowship, fun, dream-building, goal-setting and action plans for their XANGO businesses.

Thursday evening, 100K Select Janis Brown hosted an elegant party in her home with over 125 in their organization. Many, many new members and guests attended. Janis orchestrated XANGO testimonials and asked each of us to share our vision on XANGO. 100K Select Joan Pretty, Premier Select Maggie Gale, 20K Martha Cooper and many other leaders assisted with the catering.

Friday 9/10
Friday morning began with an early breakfast with key leaders. 200K Select Grace Dyck orchestrated a “Dreams of Italy” luncheon with emerging leaders and business builders. She arranged a white limo service to the exclusive 5-star restaurant of Umberto’s in Vancouver. Each XANGO emerging leader and business builder shared her dreams with XANGO and her “Why XANGO.” It was a powerful, powerful commitment luncheon. Grace was brilliant in her creation and orchestration!

Friday evening was a 20K-and-above dinner before our XANGO business opportunity meeting organized by Grace. Ninety were in attendance, with many new members and guests. Many drove great distances to attend from Alberta, other Canadian provinces and Washington.

Leaders in attendance for the weekend included 100K Selects Janis & Glen Brown, Joan Pretty, Walter & Carmen Friesen and Tim & Sharon Filuk as well as Premiers Shirley & Glenn Hutt, Lina Douglas, Kerry-Lynn Findlay Chapman, Connie To, Sonya Taylor and Ron & Maggie Gale.

Saturday 9/11
A Super Saturday led by Grace Dyck covered our morning, attracting more than 140, with new members and guests attending. Misha Hughes trained in the morning on the green science and story of XANGO’s personal care and how XANGO is the leader. Jessica Barratt gave demonstrations with many Q’s & A’s. It was so great to have their beauty, brains and expertise. Our XANGO Distributors love them! I shared the vision of XANGO and our great business opportunity, recognition, and a call to action. Loving our XANGO life. Next weekend it’s Marlene Brice’s event with ninety women at a retreat… more to come.

Your skin behaves differently from season to season. Generally, our skin is drier in the winter and oilier in the summer. However, if you spend a majority of your summertime in air-conditioned space, your skin can actually become even drier than during wintertime.

If you have normal to dry skin, your regimen shouldn’t change during the summer. Just remember to spritz yourself with Glimpse Toner whenever your skin feels dry.

Morning

• Mix Creamy Cleanser and Gel Cleanser to wash your face.
• Spritz Toner over your face. Don’t forget the neck and chest area!
• Mix Serum with Pericarp Oil and apply to skin.
• Mix Moisturizing Cream with Lotion and apply to skin.
• Use SPF products.
• Finish with Mineral Treatment .
• Reapply Mineral Treatment during the day if necessary.
• Spritz Toner during daytime.

Evening
